Greyfriars Bobby is matched in charm by the quaint little restaurant opposite. A plain-looking establishment, Caffe Lucano provides a range of food from early breakfasts to evening meals.

The 600g T-bone Angus steak is their most expensive item at £14.95. All other main courses hover around the £7 mark, which is more than reasonable considering the generous portions. When in doubt, choose the omelette: not only is it mouthwateringly fluffy and plumped with vegetables cooked to perfection, it's also the easiest to pronounce.

Offering an excellent discount on take-away items, anything sold at the counter—including rolls and cakes—is half-price after 3pm. For a rewarding experience for both pocket and mind, Caffe Lucano is the place to be.
