Doctor's name plays on its close proximity to the space formerly occupied by Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary. Popular with the student crowd, medical or otherwise, the old fashioned wooden bar is always busy. If you’re lucky you might find an empty booth to squeeze into with your friends, but the bar's popularity means that in the evenings it's often standing room only.

Hearty pub grub isn’t sophisticated—burgers, chicken wings and the like—but it certainly hits the spot. A good selection of real ales is always available on tap to wash it down with, and the draught beer is consistently above average.

With its handy proximity to all the Festival goings on, a stop here to refuel might be just what the doctor ordered.
