Medical students are more famous for their drinking and liberal use of Pro Plus than for any kind of artistry. And while St. George’s Medics give a brave stab at the world of sketch comedy, you can’t help feeling that they probably plumped for the right degree after all.

That’s not to say that there aren’t moments of hilarity: a beautifully sung piece on the relative merits of PCs and Macs for one. There are even some intellectual bits: you’ll have to have read Easton Ellis’s American Psycho to get the sketch where flyer distributors compare the quality of their wares. But for the bulk of the skits, mild amusement is all that can be expected.

Although no single set piece will send you running for the door through boredom, one set in a gay club, where DJ Hitler and MC Goebbels round off the evening by gassing the crowd, strikes a little too close to the bone. And the cast were probably regretting recruiting their parents as crowd buffers on review day – the numerous wank jokes and the lesson on the size of Henry VIII’s balls mean this isn’t that cuddly kind of revue you might expect from students.
