Gabby Killick is testing out material. Constructed as a series of comedy routines interspersed with feedback from a fictional and critical agent, Conversations With My Agent is stand-up, character comedy, music and dance all at once as the comedian, actor and viral TikTok-er tries to land on something marketable.

Killick is at her strongest in character, shrugging accents on and off with ease and throwing herself into physical comedy in wide-ranging skits which become the highlights of the hour. Her characterisation of a vacuous, drawling agent is well-realised and effective in structuring the show and bringing the audience on-side to root for Killick against the shallow criticisms levelled at her.

Unfortunately, her other material doesn’t quite run the same gamut; while Killick is likeable and confident, some jokes on topics like cancel culture and sex and relationships play like those of an older and more tired comedian and her musical numbers become a little repetitive. The conceit of the show – Killick’s defiance of superficial feedback which aims to put her in an easy box – would land more effectively were the material sharper and more original.

There is much here to like, most notably Killick herself who is clearly a confident and able performer with boundless energy. It's ironic, given the concept of Conversations With My Agent, that honing her material a little more will be what elevates her in future.
