Sketch shows are notoriously difficult to pull off. The challenge lies in ensuring that each sketch is as good as the next, and that there is enough variety in subject matter and delivery to guarantee that the audience aren’t looking at their watches.

Fortunately, this attempt is successful on both counts. The five-strong Unexpected Items enjoyed a rise to fame off the back of their viral internet sensation, Gap Yah, a smash hit YouTube parody featuring a feckless toff with a penchant for "chundering everywhere" who here rears his head briefly in a topical sketch about internships, but their other material is just as good if not better.

The eclectic array of sketches, musical numbers and video segments provide a winning combination of astute social observations and utter silliness. Standout satire includes a scathing critique of vintage fashion—that it is essentially just wearing your parent’s old clothes—and an amusing examination of the emotional trauma that "Facebook Raping" or "Fraping" can cause.

Frequently hysterical and never less than funny, this show is well worth nine pounds of anyone’s money.
